Most people know Mike Downey as the Senior Product Manager for Flash and he has always been a big part of the Flash community. In December he announced that he was leaving the Flash team to become Sr. Product Manager for Apollo, Adobe's new cross-platform desktop runtime. While he was here in Seattle I got a chance to sit down with him and ask him about Apollo, the future for the platform, and what it means for developers. Read More...

I've been very impressed with how forward thinking eBay is. They seem to have lost some of the "street cred" that the other big internet companies get, but they realize how valuable Rich Internet Applications can be and they have been working with Adobe's Apollo project to explore what RIAs can do for their users. The result is the "San Dimas" project, an RIA that uses eBay's open APIs to give buyers and sellers additional features that aren't available on the website. Read More...

Flash has come a long way from Jakob Nielsen's "Flash:99% Bad" proclamation. The rise of video and mobile phones and new ways to build Flash applications have helped put it in the minds of developers, designers and tech influentials. Now Flash has become a big part of Web 2.0 and continues to empower great experiences. This is a look at how Flash went from the skip intro button to the technology behind a $1.65 billion acquisition. Read More...

One of the things that makes Apollo such an intriguing technology is that it supports both Flash and HTML based applications. This means that Ajax developers can port their current applications over to Apollo without having to do anything with Flash. Ajax developers can then extend their applications with Apollo-specific APIs that open up Input/Output [...] Read More...
