  • FlickrViewr Using DevDave’s AnimatingWrapPanel

DevDave (Dave Relyea) is a dev lead on the Silverlight team.  He just blogged a really slick new animating wrap panel.  Read about it here and try out the sample app below.   There are a bunch of different “interpolations” that you can choose from, including “back”, “elastic”, and “bounce.” I’ve updated my FlickrViewr to use this [...] Read More...
  • FlickrViewr Updated for Beta2

Just a note to say I’ve updated my FlickrViewr for Silverlight Beta2.  (All of the controls now use VisualStateManager, too!) Enjoy! (See the original post for more info.) Read More...
  • Flotzam: Mashing up the Web

Have you seen Flotzam ? It's a fun mash-up that Karsten and Tim put together that aggregates a bunch of different data sources: Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Digg, YouTube and indeed any general RSS feed. You can install it either as an application or a screen saver, and it's a nice way to see what's going on out there on the "tubes". Karsten has coined the term panopticon to describe it (from the Greek, meaning all seeing ); to me, this feels like it has the potential to form the first step of a project to build the ultimate, pluggable, modular social networking client. Being a WPF application, Flotzam can be easily restyled. From the enter/exit transitions for new items to the overall visual look and feel of the Flotzam interface, you can do almost anything you want just by tweaking the XAML mark-up. And with MIX08 selling out quickly (hope you've registered), the team thought it would be fun to put together a little contest that gives you the chance to experiment with WPF by creating Read More...
  • Keeping Track of MIX

Our flagship conference for web designers and developers, MIX , starts today in Las Vegas. This event is unlike any other Microsoft conference, with a fascinating mix of internal and external speakers even including a few that are openly hostile towards Microsoft! I know not everyone gets as frothed up about events like this as the blogosphere would have you believe. Neverthelesss, we're using this conference to make a number of major announcements: starting in less than ninety minutes... If you're attending, welcome: hope to catch up with many of you in the corridors and lounges at the venue. If you're not attending, the visitmix.com site will put you in the front seat with on-site video blogging, live keynote streaming and other sessions posted throughout the conference. What I really want to highlight, however, is three beautiful mash-up applications, written on the WPF platform, that demonstrate all the attributes for which we hope this conference will be known: great design, social Read More...
  • New Screencast Show on WPF and Expression

The first show of a potentially great new series on WPF and Expression has just hit the wires . Andrew and Dax are going to do a series of screencasts covering the use of .NET Framework 3.0 presentation technologies over the next few months. In this first episode, they use Expression Blend to bind a Flickr RSS feed to a WPF application. This looks like a very promising series... One small piece of constructive criticism - I'm not hugely enamored of the way the WMV files are compressed with a utility that requires admin rights to open it. Judging from their website, it looks like you should be able to extract the movie with WinRAR as an alternative. Maybe they'll switch to something simple and ubiquitous like zip moving forward... (hint, hint!) Read More...
