• Have YOU Updated Your Windows SDK Recently?

  It can be pretty hard to keep everything up-to-date on a developer workstation these days. With so many CTP releases, betas, and service packs, I know I often realize that my own machine is behind in one area or another. One particularly worthwhile update that might have missed your attention over the last couple of weeks is a new release of the Windows SDK , focused on enhancements in the .NET Framework 3.5, Windows Vista SP1 and  Windows Server 2008. Amongst other changes, this updated SDK has new documentation that covers all the new classes in WPF 3.5 (e.g. UIElement3D, System.AddIn, LINQ-based data binding), a variety of new samples for common Windows services such as User Account Control, Windows Search, Windows Error Reporting, Speech, and a range of shell APIs. • The 100th WPF Channel 9 Video: KevinButton on WPF 3.5

  I see on the Channel 9 home page that we've hit the milestone of one hundred videos posted on WPF/Avalon. The latest video is one of my favorites so far - the ever-entertaining Kevin Moore (of KevinButton and Bag'o'Tricks fame) talking about and demonstrating all the new innovations in WPF 3.5 . (For a potted summary for those with a low attention span, this blog post contains some of the highlights.) It's interesting to go back to some of the earlier Channel 9 videos on Avalon to see some of the changes and (oops) schedule slips. Unfortunately, some of the older videos look like they've been archived, which is a great pity. We should get them up on MSN Soapbox or somewhere for posterity's sake, at least. It's fun to now be talking about the second release (shipping at the same time as Visual Studio 2008), and I'm looking forward to talking about the release after that before very long now (one of the things I'm spending a fair amount of time on right now). • What's New in WPF 3.5? Here's Fifteen Cool Features...

  A lot of WPF developers know that Visual Studio 2008 will include much better baked-in support for WPF - the "Cider" team have delivered a WPF forms designer, high-quality XAML Intellisense built on top of a XAML language service rather than an XSD, a full set of project templates and integration between WinForms and WPF design-time views. But not so many people are aware of the enhancements we're making behind the scenes to the core WPF runtime, both in terms of polishing off a few rough edges and adding a small number of targeted features that will unblock a few key scenarios.
